History of Lebanon, New Hampshire:
Lebanon Is A City Located In Grafton County, New Hampshire. As Of The 2000 Census, The City Had A Total Population Of 12,568. Lebanon Is Located In Western New Hampshire, South Of Hanover, Near The Connecticut River. It Is The Economic Core Of The Upper Valley Region Of Vermont And New Hampshire, With Many Malls, A Number Of High Technology And Light Manufacturing Enterprises, And Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, The Largest Medical Facility Between Boston, Massachusetts And Burlington, Vermont, Which Includes The Dartmouth Medical School.
The Town Of Lebanon Was Chartered On July 4th 1776. The Town Was Named For Lebanon, Connecticut. The Early Settlement Of The Region Was All Throughout The Areas Now Occupied By Lebanon, West Lebanon, And Enfield, However The Town Gained Its Center In Lebanon Because The Drop In The Mascoma River At That Location Was Most Suited For Milling. The Town Became An Important Manufacturing Center And An Important Railroad Hub When The Railroad From Boston Came Through, Making A Local Hub At West Lebanon, Which Became Known As Westboro After Two Trains Collided Because Of West Lebanon Being Mistaken For Lebanon. The Town Has Suffered Two Major Fires, Of Which The Second, In 1964, Destroyed A Large Portion Of The Old Manufacturing District Of Town. This Resulted In "The Mall" Which Was Built To Replace The Portions Of Hanover Street That Were Destroyed In The Fire.
